Tea and dancing

An Austen Afternoon will begin with Afternoon Tea from 2-4pm. This will be followed by a Regency Dance from 5-7pm, which includes a demonstration and instruction taught by Sebastian English Country Dance. Costumes and festive attire are highly encouraged. Both events will take place in the Reading Room.

Time travel to 1796

In between these two events, attendees are invited to the Rose Exhibition Hall to view Imagining Shakespeare: Mythmaking and Storytelling in the Regency Era. This exhibition showcases 14 paintings in the Folger collection from London's influential Boydell Shakespeare Gallery, which Jane Austen visited in 1796.

Tickets to An Austen Afternoon will go on sale Monday, November 17. Please fill out the form below to receive an email alert; we expect tickets to sell very quickly. On Wednesday, November 19, any remaining tickets to each event will go on sale separately to guests who might not be able to attend both Afternoon Tea and the Regency Dance.
