Reopening FAQ

Thanks for sending us so many great questions. We’ve put them in one handy place and will do our best to keep things updated.

VISITING THE BUILDING

When will the building reopen for visitors?
Our lobbies and public spaces are open for the public to enjoy Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. No reservations are needed, but masks are required for all guests.

Will the Guthrie Store be open during building hours?
You can shop in person Thursdays and Fridays from noon to 4 p.m. or shop online anytime. In the following weeks, the schedule may shift as we determine how to best serve our guests. Please check the website for up-to-date store hours.

Will backstage and architecture tours resume when the building opens?
Not at this time, but we hope to offer tours beginning in late fall.

When may I rent a Guthrie space for an event?
We will reopen for rentals in January 2022. Available dates and spaces will be announced soon.

When will your bars and restaurants open?
It’s likely that food and beverage service will resume in phases, and we look forward to sharing more information in the coming months.

Will your restrooms be open?
Our public restrooms on Level Four, Level Five and Level Eight will be open. We have signage in the building to help you know where to go.

SAFETY PROTOCOLS

Will face masks or vaccinations be required for guests, patrons and staff?
For guests visiting the building: All guests must wear a mask that securely covers the nose and mouth when visiting the Guthrie’s indoor and outdoor public spaces during building hours. Bandanas and neck gaiters are not considered acceptable facial coverings. Proof of vaccination is not required. If you need a mask, just ask.

For ticket holders: Masks and proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 or a negative COVID-19 test are required to attend a performance at the Guthrie.

Please visit www.guthrietheater.org/health to learn more about our current policies. As city, state and CDC guidelines continue to change, we will keep our health and safety page up to date so you know exactly what to expect when you visit the Guthrie.

I’m not comfortable coming to the theater yet. Will streaming be available for future productions?
As we work to rebuild the organization, we are still determining this.

Has the Guthrie installed increased ventilation?
We’ve made building improvements to help ensure the health and safety of staff and guests, including increased air flow and the installation of high-efficiency MERV 13 air filters.

2021‒2022 SEASON

When do A Christmas Carol tickets go on sale?
Single tickets go on sale to the general public on September 7. Subscribers may purchase group tickets on August 19 and single tickets on August 24.

Will you also offer Dickens’ Holiday Classic, your virtual telling of A Christmas Carol, this year?
We were overwhelmed by the positive response to last season’s virtual production. At the moment, we’re focused on building an all-new stage production and eager to gather for in-person performances this fall. We hope to know more about the future of Dickens’ Holiday Classic soon.

Will student matinees be available?
We’ve made the difficult decision to cancel student matinees for A Christmas Carol in 2021. As an alternative, we’ll offer our 2020 Dickens’ Holiday Classic, a virtual telling of A Christmas Carol, to schools at no cost. Look for information about how to request access soon.

At this time, we plan to offer student matinees for A Raisin in the Sun and The Tempest, and group tickets may be requested beginning Tuesday, August 31 at 8 a.m. via our online form. We’ll continue to monitor local, state and federal COVID-19 guidelines and keep you up to date regarding changes to our health and safety policies. Learn more on our website here

TICKETS

May I use my tickets from a previous performance?
Yes. The value of any tickets that were not donated or refunded has been credited to your Guthrie account and may be applied when you purchase single tickets, season ticket packages, education classes or gift certificates.

How do I find out how much money I have on account?
Reach out to the Box Office at 612.377.2224 or boxoffice@guthrietheater.org. In the coming weeks, we’ll send you an email with your account balance for reference.

I have a complimentary ticket voucher. When may I use it?
We will announce eligible dates for ticket vouchers soon.

Will the rush line be open?
Yes, we expect the rush line to return. We’ll share details closer to the first show of the season.

I’d like to purchase a gift certificate for a friend. What’s the best way to do this?
Thank you! Guthrie gift certificates may be used toward the purchase of play tickets, classes or tours. They never expire and may be redeemed online or at the Box Office. Learn more and purchase here.
