LIFF is one of the UK’s leading film festivals and volunteering with us is a
unique and rewarding experience.
We are looking for a dedicated and diverse
group of people who are:
- passionate about film,
especially independent British and international filmmaking;
- reliable and available
across at least four different days during the LIFF 2023 dates;
- enjoys being part of a
team and collaborating with others;
- driven to help make
LIFF one of the best audience experiences in the UK.

Volunteer Roles at LIFF 2023
Venue Assistants These
volunteers help to run individual festival screenings, leading on ushering and
assisting Venue Coordinators with scanning tickets and reporting technical
faults at screenings. A passion for film and excellent customer service skills
are a must!
Festival Trainees* This role
is for those who want more behind-the-scenes experience of LIFF and who might
want to work in the film industry. There will be training sessions with the
LIFF team ahead of the film festival to give more insight into areas like
programming, production, partnership development, and marketing. During the
film festival, trainees will be based with the LIFF team at Carriageworks and
helping on a wide variety of tasks including:
- assisting on administrative
tasks such as data input and website content upload;
- assisting with daily
logistical tasks required for the operation of the festival;
- assisting at guest and
industry events, and helping with guest coordination;
- helping to set up and
take down LIFF infrastructure at venues.
*Please note spaces for Festival Trainees are limited and we recommend
you also apply for the position of Venue Assistant. Shortlisted candidates for
this role will have an informal interview.

Leeds Arts, Events & Venues promote the creation of asset based volunteer roles, and welcome individual input on tasks and responsibilities.

We are committed to ensuring our volunteer roles are accessible to a diverse range of individuals. Each application is treated fairly in accordance with our Equality & Diversity policy.
You must select at least four shifts on different days across the festival for your application to be considered. The more shifts you are willing to work, the better your chances of being selected. The times indicated here may vary slightly, but this will give us an indication of your relevant availability.
We may also need some volunteers to help with tasks before the festival, including our Programme Launch night on October 11th.
